Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip weeks ago to be the first leading sub-processor in this generation, as it comes directly after the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in the company’s structure. To evaluate its actual capabilities, the new processor was tested inside the OnePlus Ace 6T phone to measure its raw performance.

Novice Evaluation platform results showed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is very close to the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Elite in the CPU aspect.

The new processor scored about 2957 points on Geekbench 6 for a single core and 10,236 points for multiple cores, while the Snapdragon 8 Elite achieved about 3,256 points and 10,358 points, respectively.

But the gap clearly widens when you move to GPU graphics performance. In the 3DMark Steel Nomad Light test, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 achieved a score of 2088 points, while the Snapdragon 8 Elite reached 2550 points.

In the WildLife Extreme test, the new generation achieved 5681 points compared to 7156 points for the higher generation, which reflects a superiority of approximately 20% in favor of the Elite processor.

The same picture is repeated in the Geekbench OpenCL test; The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 scored about 17,217 points, while the OnePlus 15 phone equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor achieved about 18,287 points.

This seems logical, as the new chip is based on the Adreno 829 graphics processor, which is essentially a reduced version of the Adreno 840 found in the Elite chip.
