Switch players were recently informed that support for the Hulu app on the device will end on February 5, 2026, a decision that reflects the device’s declining streaming entertainment capabilities, though some limited alternatives remain. On the other hand, critics believe that the Switch 2’s situation is even worse, with YouTube expected to arrive at a later date.
The current generation Switch continues to offer a small amount of streaming services, as Wario64 pointed out in an update posted on Nintendo’s support site. The discontinuation of Hulu is expected with its integration into Disney+, but the absence of any application for Disney content increases the limited options.
Despite this decline, the Switch offers a few applications such as CrunchyRoll, which attracts anime fans, in addition to YouTube, which players rely on to follow explanations and game news.

In contrast, the Switch 2 mode feels more frustrating. Although it supports compatibility with previous generation games, this does not include streaming applications, and there are no indications that CrunchyRoll will reach it. However, hopes remain pinned on YouTube, especially after Google pledged to provide an updated version of the application following the launch of the device.
The latest updates confirm that the development of the YouTube application has been completed, and that it is currently undergoing review with Nintendo, which enhances the possibility of its launch soon.
Until then, debate continues over whether the Switch 2 should turn into a full-fledged streaming platform, or whether Nintendo’s focus will remain solely on gaming, leaving users to rely on phones and tablets for visual entertainment.
