Now based on LibreElec 12.2, Laca 6.1 is a new version of this classic console emulator for single board PCs. Back in April 2024, version 5.0 was released, and since then, the team has been working on revamping the core ecosystem and introducing many new features.
Laka has been around for over a decade now, and is a lightweight, community-driven classic gaming distro that uses the Retro Ark and LibreElectric UI. Laca is typically used on low-spec single board computers such as the Raspberry Pi, and also caters to older hardware platforms.
The new release uses LibreElec 12.2 and also integrates all the changes required to provide the best reliability in the new long-term support kernel series, specifically 6.18. LAKA 6.1 also ships with Retro Arc 1.22.2, as well as the following updated components: MESA 25.1.9. The main kernel is 6.18.7, along with 6.12.66 for the Raspberry Pi, as 6.18.y isn’t stable enough for it yet, as well as 6.18.0 for AM Logic devices. Improvements for Raspberry Pi Image CRT TVs. New setup script.
The installation files and tutorial can be accessed via this page. In addition to the previously mentioned platforms, the list of supported devices is very rich, and also includes Nintendo Switch consoles, single-board computers powered by All Winner and Rockchip processors, TV boxes, home arcade consoles, in addition to regular desktop and laptop computers, and more.
