During the recent period, Firefox added a group of features based on artificial intelligence, after Google and Microsoft preceded it by introducing similar technologies to the Chrome and Edge browsers. These additions included a tab grouping tool, AI-powered translation, and quick access to a chatbot.
But on the other hand, a large number of users did not welcome this trend, expressing their dissatisfaction with the imposition of more artificial intelligence features without a clear option to abandon them. As a result, Mozilla has decided to respond to these objections by adding a blanket disable switch for all AI features in the upcoming Firefox update on February 24.
Mozilla CEO, Enzor de Meo, stressed that freedom of choice is a fundamental priority, explaining that the company sees real benefit in current and future artificial intelligence features, and also confirms its commitment to protecting user data. However, it felt that giving users the option to turn off these features entirely was a necessary step.
While some users find these tools useful in their daily use, others prefer to stay away from them entirely, whether for privacy reasons or lack of need. In any case, Mozilla’s decision stands out as a step that respects users’ wishes and gives them freedom of control, unlike what many major technology companies do.
