Huawei has succeeded in building an integrated system within China, but in return, buyers in Western markets must realize that the company cannot officially install Google services due to US sanctions.
An important question always arises: Can Google apps be used on Huawei devices? While reviewing the MatePad 11.5 S 2026 Edition, I re-evaluated this closely. It is true that at first it requires performing some additional steps and installing open source tools, but after that most Google applications work without significant problems.
On the other hand, some restrictions persist, most notably the inoperability of Google Wallet and Google Pay. However, this is not a real drawback in this case, as the device already lacks NFC technology. Accordingly, the absence of Google services is no longer a real problem for tablet buyers.
The MatePad 11.5 S (2026) offers an innovative experience compared to its price category, as it includes unusual features in the mid-range device category. The device retails for around €500 directly from Huawei, and supports the feature-rich Huawei M-Pencil Pro stylus. The pen provides multiple tips for drawing and writing, supports gestures, and more than 16,000 levels of pressure sensitivity, in addition to tilt sensing.
The matte screen stands out as one of its most important strengths, as Huawei has improved it significantly. Color accuracy and clarity appeared at a better level, as confirmed by the color accuracy measurements in the review. The matte finish also gives a comfortable feel, reduces fingerprints, and adds light resistance to the pen that makes the experience closer to writing on paper.
However, the device is not without some notes. There is no version that supports cellular connectivity, and the current version also lacks GPS, which is disappointing, especially since the low-reflective screen is very suitable for use in open spaces. Also, battery life could have been improved if a more efficient processor had been used.
