Sony today launched its new 200-megapixel sensor, the LYT-901, which is expected to appear in a number of high-end devices soon. However, it seems that Samsung will avoid using it in its upcoming flagship phones.
The famous leaker Ice Universe indicated that Samsung is not currently planning to adopt this sensor in its future phones, although previous reports indicated that the Galaxy S27 Ultra expected in 2027 may come with the new sensor as the main camera. In theory, Sony’s 1/1.12-inch LYT-901 sensor offers a clear upgrade over the 1/1.3-inch ISOCELL HP2 sensor that Samsung has adopted in its recent premium models.

From this, leaks indicate that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will come with an advanced 1/1.3-inch sensor similar to what was used in previous versions.
Although this size is neither small nor weak, this decision seems to reflect the general opinion about Samsung’s choices in camera hardware, with the Galaxy S series having seen a relative stagnation in camera improvements.
