Microsoft has confirmed the appearance of a strange bug in Windows 11 that causes the password login icon to disappear from the lock screen after recent updates, leaving some users confused about how to log in, even though the button still works normally.

The password button is supposed to appear only when the user activates more than one means of access, such as PIN, password, security key, and fingerprint.

However, if the user relies on the password only, the system displays the field directly without the need for the icon, and thus there does not appear to be a problem. But the flaw affects those who have multiple login options activated.

Microsoft explained that the issue appears in Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 after installing the KB5064081 update issued in August 2025 or any later update. In this case, the system stops displaying the password icon within the list of login options, giving the impression that the password option is no longer available.

In fact, the button is still there but it does not display properly and appears as an empty space. According to Microsoft’s updated documentation, hovering the cursor over this space reveals a clickable area. Once selected, the system opens the password entry field normally, allowing login without problems.

So far, Microsoft has not provided a permanent solution, only recommending using this hidden button until a final patch is released, which has not yet been scheduled.

This bug represents a new problem added to a series of bugs caused by the recent KB5064081 update. At the end of September, Microsoft was forced to correct a bug that led to the screen freezing, playback interruption, or a black screen appearing when playing DRM-protected video content via Blu-ray, DVD, or digital TV applications.

It also fixed an issue that prevented the installation of some applications on non-administrative accounts due to a sudden appearance of the account control window, in addition to severe interruption in NDI-based streaming programs on both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
