Xiaomi has now launched the Xiaomi 17 globally to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S26 as the new compact flagship phone that is hard to beat. The Xiaomi 17 comes with a 5G Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and a 6,330 mAh battery. It also features four 50-megapixel cameras with support for 50W wireless charging and 100W wired charging.

Earlier this week, Samsung launched the Galaxy S26 (currently available for $899 on Amazon) globally. Now, Xiaomi has reciprocated by launching the Xiaomi 17 alongside the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and the Leica Letzphone. Originally launched more than five months ago in China, the Xiaomi 17 is roughly the same size as the Galaxy S26 thanks to its 6.3-inch display.

In the end, almost everything we noticed during our review of Xiaomi’s Chinese models should remain true for this global version. For example, the global model retains a 3,500-nit AMOLED display with four 50-megapixel cameras, including a 60mm focal length telephoto sensor. Likewise, the 5G Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset returns, as does support for 50W wireless charging and 100W wired charging.

Unfortunately, Xiaomi has reduced the battery capacity of the Xiaomi 17 by 9.5% for its global version from 7,000 mAh to 6,330 mAh. As a result, the device is unlikely to last as long as our Chinese review unit did. Xiaomi also replaced its white version available in China with an adventure green alternative to complement the black, ice blue and alpine pink versions.

The Xiaomi 17 comes in two memory configurations, both with 12GB of RAM. The device starts at €999 (about $1,179) with 256GB of storage. Alternatively, the Xiaomi 17 with 512GB storage can be purchased for an additional 100 euros. Pre-orders placed before March 14 will be eligible to purchase the Xiaomi Tag tracker for €0.99 and the 120W power adapter for €29 instead of €59. Please visit Xiaomi’s website for more details.
