WhatsApp announced the launch of the parental-managed accounts feature for users under the age of teens, with a gradual rollout globally. This feature aims to give parents greater control over the experience of children using the application, while limiting it to messages and calls only.

These accounts allow parents to fully create and manage a child’s account, including specifying who is allowed to communicate with them and which groups they can join. Parents can also review message requests from unknown contacts and control the account’s privacy settings.

To enhance security, WhatsApp protects all these settings via a parental PIN used to manage the account.

To create a managed account, you must first install the WhatsApp application on the child’s phone, then choose the More options option during account setup and click on Create a parent-managed account. After that, the child’s phone number is registered and verified, then his date of birth is entered to confirm his age.

In the final step, the parents scan the QR code that appears on the child’s phone to link his account to theirs, then create a six-digit PIN to control the account settings.
