Concepts of foldable smartphones have emerged over the past few years, but we have yet to see any actual product that uses a foldable screen, although laptops with foldable screens already exist.
Not only did previous phone concepts introduce screens that unfolded from the side, but Vivo also registered a patent for a completely different smartphone, where the screen becomes longer, not wider, when unfolded.

The deployable device appears in the patent application in a way that attracts attention, as the length of the screen increases as it is unfolded, which is an interesting design. However, the uses of this type of screen remain unclear, especially since current applications are already optimized for long screens.
It’s worth noting that this is just a patent and not a production-ready concept, and it’s unclear whether it will turn into an actual product, as phone companies file many patents that they don’t actually use.
