Price movements of strategic crops and bulbs
Retail traders and citizens are closely following the movement of vegetable trading, as potatoes witnessed a slight price boom as a result of the shortage in supply of some agricultural crops.
While the price of tomatoes stabilized at their usual levels, garlic and onions recorded mixed movements that reflect the demand situation in the morning wholesale markets that supply most of the governorates of the Republic.
The distributors explained that the carrots without stalks and zucchini maintained remarkable price stability, which contributes to the balance of the vegetable basket for the final consumer.
Although the price of red onions increased by one pound, the availability of white onions at prices starting at 6 pounds provided suitable economic alternatives for citizens in light of the current fluctuations.
Trades fresh, leafy vegetables and lemons
Regarding the group of fresh vegetables, okra recorded the highest price in the market, reaching 100 pounds per kilo, which is a seasonal price linked to the beginning of production.
While peas and molokhiya witnessed an encouraging decline for consumers by 3 pounds each, and spinach and cucumbers stabilized at medium levels that ensure the smooth flow of buying and selling without major financing obstacles.
As for citrus fruits related to the vegetable sector, local lemons recorded a decrease of two pounds, while dahlia lemons stabilized at low levels starting at 8 pounds.
This data reflects farmers’ desire to dispose of leafy and soft crops quickly to avoid damage, especially with temperature changes affecting the lifespan of consumer goods.
Eggplant and pepper prices and their impact on retail
The eggplant family saw notable movements within the vegetable varieties on offer, with romaine eggplant jumping with an increase of 3 pounds.
While colored pepper rose by 5 pounds as a result of the increase in production costs in greenhouses, and hot pepper rose by 1 pound, which reflects purchasing pressures in this specific sector of agricultural products.
