In its last meeting, the Board of Directors of the General Syndicate of the Egyptian Writers Union decided to choose the great Egyptian writer and novelist Youssef Al-Qaid as honorary president of the union for this year.

The poet Dr. Alaa Abdel Hadi, Secretary-General of the General Union of Arab Writers and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Syndicate of the Egyptian Writers Union, said that the tradition of the honorary presidency of the Syndicate began with the world-renowned Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz, and then it became an annual approach adopted by the Syndicate ten years ago, as a number of Egypt’s leading creators, thinkers, and critics succeeded to this position, including Dr. Hussein Nassar, the novelist Sonallah Ibrahim, the poet Muhammad Ibrahim Abu Sunna, and Dr. Mahmoud Al-Rubaie.

Last year’s honorary chairwoman was the great writer Farida Al-Naqqash.

The great writer and novelist has many books, including the novel Pain of Al-Baad, the novel Happening in Egypt Now, the novel The War in Mainland Egypt, the novel The News of Ezbet Al-Manisy, and many other novels.
