The engineer team reviewed, Kamel Al-WazirMinister of Transport, highlighted the importance and advantages of the monorail project east of the Nile, which was inaugurated by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi today, Friday, coinciding with Eid al-Fitr celebrations, noting that it is being implemented for the first time in Egypt and constitutes a major cultural shift in mass transportation.
The Minister explained that the monorail is a fast, modern, safe and environmentally friendly means of transportation that contributes to alleviating traffic congestion and encourages passengers to rely on it instead of private cars.
The West Nile Monorail will officially begin operation after 6 months
The Minister also announced that the start of operation of the West Nile Monorail will officially begin 6 months from today, stressing that the state will continue to develop the mass transportation system to provide sustainable and modern means that keep pace with urban growth in Greater Cairo and the New Capital.
The minister added that monorail trains are distinguished by their operation without a driver, and that the pickup time will reach 3 minutes, and it is planned to reach 90 seconds with the increase in the volume of demand. The journey time from Cairo Stadium to the New Capital also takes about 70 minutes. In addition, for the first time, Screen Doors have been installed on the platforms in front of the train doors to maintain the safety of passengers, in addition to the presence of safe corridors that allow passengers to move between cars for greater comfort for passengers.
