The Arab Republic of Egypt welcomes the announcement by US President Donald Trump this evening of agreeing to suspend military operations in the region for two weeks, as this American step represents an important positive development towards achieving the desired calm, containing escalation, and preserving the security, stability and capabilities of the peoples of the region and the entire world.

Egypt affirms that the suspension of military operations by the United States and the response of the Iranian side represents a very important opportunity that must be seized to make room for negotiations, diplomacy and constructive dialogue, which is what Egypt has always called for, to resolve disputes by peaceful means and not resort to force, in a way that contributes to reducing escalation, ending the war, achieving regional and international security and stability, and sparing the peoples of the region and the world from further suffering.

Egypt stresses the importance of building on this step through full commitment to halting military operations and respecting international freedom of navigation. Egypt renews its support for all initiatives aimed at achieving peace and security, and affirms the continuation of its tireless efforts with Pakistan and Turkey to work with regional and international partners to enhance security and stability in the region.
