The security services at the Ministry of Interior were able to arrest two people who formed a gang whose activity was specialized in defrauding citizens and seizing their money.

Two students were arrested for taking over citizens’ social media accounts and obtaining money from their acquaintances in Minya

Information and investigations from the General Administration for Combating Information Technology Crimes in the Communications and Information Technology Systems Sector confirmed that two students residing in the Adwa Police Station in Minya committed fraud and defrauded citizens, by using fraudulent methods and methods that enabled them to seize the personal accounts of a number of citizens on social networking sites, through which they impersonated their identities and obtained sums of money from their acquaintances through various electronic payment methods.

After codifying the procedures, in coordination with the relevant ministry agencies, they were able to be seized, and they were in possession of 11 mobile phones, 38 mobile phone SIM cards, a bank account and an electronic wallet containing sums of money. Upon examination, it was found that they contained evidence confirming that they had committed the incident, a knife, and a quantity of hashish.

When they were confronted, they admitted to committing 33 incidents in the same manner, and legal measures were taken. This comes within the framework of the Ministry of Interior’s agencies continuing their efforts to combat crimes of fraud and defrauding citizens and seizing their money.
