poses Central Bank of Egypt Tomorrow, Thursday, new treasury bills denominated in Egyptian pounds will be issued, on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, as part of the government’s efforts to provide the necessary funding for the state’s general budget and manage liquidity in the local market. The date of issuance of the bills is scheduled to be March 10, 2026.
Offering details
The offering includes two issues of short-term treasury bills:
- The first issue is worth 40 billion pounds, for a period of 182 days, with a maturity date of September 15, 2026.
- The second issue is worth 50 billion pounds, for a period of 364 days, and matures on March 16, 2027.
Treasury bills are short-term debt instruments that the government relies on primarily to finance its financing needs and close the budget deficit, in addition to managing liquidity levels in the banking market.
Results of a previous bid
In a previous tender for treasury bills, the Ministry of Finance accepted offers from banks worth more than 72.5 billion pounds, out of a total of requests amounting to about 207.2 billion pounds, which reflects the demand for investment in government debt instruments.
According to data from the Central Bank of Egypt, the average interest rate on accepted offers was about 23% for 364-day treasury bills, while the average return was about 24.177% for 182-day bills.
