The Ministry of Education and Technical Education confirmed that there is no intention to increase the number of years of study at the primary level, denying what was circulated on some social media regarding making immediate amendments to the system of years of basic education.
The Ministry explained that what was raised about extending the period of compulsory education to 13 years is nothing more than a proposal proposed for study within discussions to develop the education system, and no final decision has been taken regarding it yet.
Education denies increasing the years of primary school to 7 years
The Ministry stressed that the system of years of study in the primary stage remains unchanged, and that any proposals related to extending the years of compulsory education are still in the research and study stage. Any amendments will not be implemented except after completing the necessary studies and community dialogue and obtaining the required legislative approvals.
The sources confirmed that if this proposal is approved, the additional year will not be in the primary stage, but rather before it, indicating that this matter comes within the continuous development of the educational system, which aims to improve the quality of the educational process, keep pace with international standards, and enhance students’ skills in proportion to the requirements of the labor market.
