US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Wednesday that there is a possibility of holding a direct meeting with Iran at some point.

Speaking on the “Hannity” program on the American Fox News channel, Rubio explained that Tehran and Washington may hold a “direct meeting” at some point, indicating a future breakthrough.

However, Rubio also stressed that the United States remains cautious about Tehran’s intentions, saying: “There is a possibility of a direct meeting at some point.”

“We will always be open to that, but what President Donald Trump will not allow is the use of sham negotiations as a stalling tactic, to buy more time, or to gain space for themselves,” he warned.

He added: “This will not be allowed, but we will accomplish the mission here,” before repeating that the United States is “very close to achieving its goals in all of these matters that he mentioned.”
