Confirm When will I have tea?Chairman of the Internal Trade Committee of the General Importers Division of the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce, said that the merchant and importer in the Egyptian market are facing a very complex equation during the current period, which is reconciling the national duty to reduce prices to reduce the burden on citizens, and the continuing rise in import costs.
Matta Bishai: The suffering of merchants is escalating between low prices and high imports
Bishai explained in a statement that the pressures that importers are exposed to are not limited only to fluctuations in the dollar exchange rate, but also extend to increasing global shipping costs, rising prices for logistics services, as well as supply chain disruptions, which are factors that impose additional burdens on the cost of final goods.
He pointed out that the Egyptian merchant is aware of his societal responsibility at this stage, and seeks to absorb part of these increases as much as possible, but the continuation of pressure for long periods may affect the sustainability of commercial activity, especially in light of the decline in profit margins.
He added that achieving a balance between price stability and the continued flow of goods requires more coordination between government agencies and the commercial community, which contributes to reducing import burdens, supporting market stability, and ensuring the availability of goods at reasonable prices for consumers.
Bishai concluded his statements by emphasizing that the current stage requires the cooperation of all parties to maintain market stability, stressing that the merchant will remain a major partner in the state’s efforts to contain waves of inflation and reduce the burdens on citizens.
