The Egyptian General Authority for Medicines warned against some dietary habits that may negatively affect the health of citizens during the month of Ramadan, stressing the necessity of regulating meal times and adopting a balanced dietary pattern that contributes to maintaining weight and the health of the digestive system.
The Egyptian Medicines Authority warns against wrong eating habits during Ramadan
The Authority explained, in an awareness publication, that the stomach usually needs between two and four hours to digest the main meal, which requires avoiding eating food continuously without time intervals. She also confirmed that drinking tea or coffee immediately after eating reduces the body’s ability to absorb iron, noting the need to wait at least an hour before consuming these drinks.
The authority noted that the month of Ramadan represents an appropriate opportunity to reset eating habits, calling on citizens to:
- Start breakfast with moderate amounts of food.
- Choose foods rich in fiber and slow digestion at suhoor to enhance satiety and maintain energy levels.
- Reduce consumption of fried foods and sugars to reduce weight gain and associated health problems.
- Drink water regularly from iftar until suhoor to maintain hydration and vital body functions.
- Avoid excessive caffeine and salts that may cause health complications.
The Authority stressed that applying these nutritional guidelines during the month of Ramadan can constitute a real start to a healthier life, and contribute to the prevention of obesity and chronic diseases associated with an unhealthy nutritional pattern.
