The Senegalese Football Association issued an official statement after CAF’s decisions regarding the African Cup of Nations final, withdrawing the title from the Teranga Lions and giving it to the Atlas Lions, the Moroccan national team.
The Senegalese Football Federation announced today that it had received notification of the decision issued on March 17, 2026 by the Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). This action comes in the wake of the complaint submitted during the 52nd match of the African Cup of Nations, which was held in Morocco in 2025, between the national teams of Senegal and Morocco.
In the statement, the Senegalese Football Federation condemned this unjust, unprecedented and unacceptable decision, which casts a shadow over African football. To protect its rights and the interests of Senegalese football, the Senegalese Football Federation will file an appeal as soon as possible before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The Senegalese Football Federation reaffirms its firm commitment to the values of integrity and sporting justice, and will update the public on the latest developments in this case.
The Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football announced the acceptance of the Moroccan Football Federation’s appeal. Thus, the Committee overturned the decision of the CAF Disciplinary Committee, based on the lack of respect for the appellant’s right to be heard during the preliminary proceedings.
The Appeals Committee also decided that the conduct of the Senegalese national team fell under Articles 82 and 84 of the African Cup of Nations Regulations, and accordingly, the Confederation of African Football declared that the Senegalese Football Federation had violated Article 82, and awarded the victory to Senegal by withdrawing, with the score 3-0 in favor of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, in accordance with Article 84.
