Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, confirmed that the citizen is a partner in the success of the plan to rationalize electricity consumption, and that the Ministry continues to work to improve energy efficiency and prevent waste in all sectors of use of electricity, explaining that electricity distribution companies are the link between the electricity sector and subscribers, and they have a major role in implementing the state’s plan to rationalize and reduce fossil fuel consumption, pointing to the savings achieved during the first week of implementing government measures related to commercial stores, lighting in government buildings, road advertisements, and others, Which amounted to 18 thousand megawatt hours, and a fuel saving of 3.5 million cubic metres, adding that the savings achieved during the day of remote work amounted to 4,700 megawatt hours, and 980 thousand cubic meters of fuel savings, stressing the success of the operating patterns and commitment to quality standards and economic operation in achieving an overall saving in the fuel used that amounted to 2.1% during the month of March despite the increase in produced energy by 3.3% compared to the time period during last year.
Electricity consumption rationalization plan
Dr. Mahmoud Esmat added, during his meeting with the heads of electricity distribution companies, in the presence of Engineer Gaber Desouki, President of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company, Engineer Mona Rizk, President of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, Dr. Ahmed Mahina, Head of the Strategic Planning and Performance Monitoring Sector, and Mohamed Dabis, Assistant Minister for Distribution, that there are many initiatives being worked on in partnership with the relevant institutions to emphasize energy efficiency standards and codes, in addition to cooperation and work to establish a culture of rationalization of consumption, noting the effective role. For electricity distribution companies in this field, referring to the ministry’s action plan and the national energy strategy, to diversify the sources of electricity generation, rely on renewable energies, reduce fuel consumption, ensure the stability and sustainability of the electric current, and improve the quality of the electrical supply, stressing the importance of continuing the current operating plan and the field presence of company heads in light of the state of instability that the region is suffering from, to ensure the security of the national electricity grid and the stability of the supply.
During the meeting, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat reviewed indicators of improvement in the performance rates of electricity distribution companies and the total energy sold, reducing losses, preventing wastage of power, collection rates, confronting the phenomenon of power theft and obtaining electricity illegally, adhering to quality standards in providing services, a plan to support and strengthen the network and meeting electricity needs within the framework of the state’s plan for sustainable development, and careful review by each company of load rates in each region, evaluating performance, and drawing lessons learned during the network’s response to the illegal increase. The unprecedented loads of last summer and benefiting from them in preparing for the summer this year.
The meeting touched on maintenance programs, procedures for reducing malfunction rates, and the implementation of occupational safety and health programs, as well as the formation of mobile specialized maintenance teams, permanent and continuous coordination with the Ministry’s Crisis Center and the National Energy Control Center, as well as various components of the electricity system, real-time follow-up of the complaints system and receiving reports on the hotline 121, and the unified electronic platform, and the speed of responding to them, dealing with them, following them up, the position of installing code meters, and the expansion of the installation of smart meters.
