Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, held a meeting today, Tuesday, to review the plan to add new and renewable energy projects to the national electricity grid, within the framework of the state’s strategy to secure the growing energy needs and ensure the sustainability of service provision, in the presence of Engineer Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Ahmed Rostom, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Ali Al-Sisi, Assistant Minister of Finance for General Budget Affairs, Walid Abdullah, Head of the General Budget Sector at the Ministry of Finance, and Engineer Nihad. Morsi, Assistant Minister of Planning for Infrastructure Affairs.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, confirmed that the government is working to consolidate the new and renewable energy file as a strategic priority, adding that the deliberate expansion of new and renewable energy projects represents the ideal path to enhancing the flexibility of the national economy, by reducing dependence on traditional fuels, reducing operational burdens, and creating a balanced energy mix. This embodies the country’s endeavor to transform into a leading regional center for green energy.

The Prime Minister directed the Ministers of Planning and Finance to arrange all required financial resources to ensure the rapid introduction of additional capacities of new and renewable energy into the national grid, to secure the growing energy needs and ensure the sustainability of service provision.

Counselor Muhammad Al-Homsani, the official spokesman for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, stated that the meeting discussed ways to maximize the benefit from renewable energy resources, and the efforts made to secure the state’s energy needs, as well as the integration of work between the ministries of electricity, petroleum, and finance, to accelerate the introduction of additional clean energy capabilities and provide the necessary financing for them. With the aim of ensuring the stability of the national network and achieving optimal exploitation of available resources to meet development requirements.

Advisor Muhammad Al-Homsani added that the meeting discussed the capabilities targeted to be added from wind energy, solar energy, and storage battery systems according to the 2030 energy strategy, as well as the position of the additional capabilities that have been contracted and are currently being contracted. This ensures enhancing the stability of the national grid and meeting the increasing demand for energy.

During the meeting, the position of renewable energy projects on lands allocated to the Renewable Energy Authority in the Gulf of Suez and Red Sea regions was also reviewed.
