Engineer Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, and Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, held an extensive meeting with pharmaceutical companies and the Export Council for Medical Industries to develop a road map for developing the sector, according to a statement.

Engineer Khaled Hashem confirmed the Ministry’s readiness to link manufacturers with researchers to support Pharmaceutical manufacturing projectsHe stressed the need to use artificial intelligence and modern technology in development research to save time and cost, with a focus on raising the efficiency of existing factories to comply with international quality standards and registration requirements in foreign markets.

Medical industries sector

For his part, Dr. Muhammad Farid Saleh explained that the medical industries sector represents a strategic focus for increasing exports, especially towards African and promising markets, stressing that the Ministry is working to activate investment incentives and financing tools that link production expansion and international access.
The minister indicated that the current priority is focused on localizing the pharmaceutical raw materials industry to reduce dependence on imports and enhance national pharmaceutical security, while simplifying regulatory procedures and facilitating obtaining licenses to attract new investments in the fields of biotechnology.
The meeting, which included leaders from the Sovereign Fund of Egypt and the Egyptian Medicines Authority, discussed mechanisms for integrating scientific research into the production system to create medical products with high added value that compete globally.

The participants stressed the importance of integrating efforts between universities, research centers and the industrial sector to accelerate the cycle of production and drug discovery, while providing various financing tools that support expansion plans, which contributes to transforming Egypt into a leading regional center for the medical and pharmaceutical industries, meeting the needs of the growing local market and securing consumption gaps.

Representatives of the Export Council and pharmaceutical companies welcomed the outcomes of the meeting, stressing the necessity of continuing the partnership with the government to overcome the operational and marketing challenges they face abroad.
A set of proposed policies were reviewed to develop the system of incentives directed to the sector, ensuring sustainable growth and increasing foreign cash flows through medical exports, while emphasizing the importance of continuous communication between the public and private sectors to achieve the state’s goals of deepening local manufacturing and increasing the share of the Egyptian product in global markets.
