Dr. Badr Abdel Aty received Minister External International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad received a phone call from Yvette Cooper, Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom, on Saturday, April 11, within the framework of periodic consultation between the two sides, where they discussed ways to strengthen Egyptian-British relations, and developments in the situation in the region in light of the American-Iranian negotiations in Islamabad, in addition to developments in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, and Sudan.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the two ministers stressed during the call the common desire to continue developing bilateral relations between the two countries to broader horizons in various fields, especially economic, trade and investment, and the mutual keenness to enhance joint coordination in light of the grave security challenges at the regional and international levels.

Minister Abdel Aty reviewed the intensive efforts made by Egypt during the recent period to contain the escalation in the region in close coordination with regional partners, stressing Egypt’s firm position calling for giving priority to the diplomatic track and negotiations as the only way to deal with the current crisis.

He also stressed the importance of building on the ceasefire declaration as a basic pillar for strengthening the de-escalation efforts, expressing his aspiration for the success of the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran in Pakistan and for them to constitute a turning point to end the war.

Egypt’s complete refusal to undermine Lebanon’s sovereignty

Regarding the developments in Lebanon, the Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed Egypt’s complete rejection of violating Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, stressing Egypt’s full solidarity with Lebanon, and condemned in this context the brutal Israeli aggression, noting that it constitutes a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international law, demanding that pressure be exerted on Israel to stop the aggression immediately.

The call also discussed developments in the Palestinian issue, as Minister Abdel Ati stressed the necessity of implementing all the entitlements of the second phase of the US President’s plan, including ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid without obstacles, in preparation for the start of the early recovery and reconstruction phase.

He also stressed the importance of enabling the National Committee for Gaza Administration to carry out its duties within the Strip during the next phase, and supporting the rapid deployment of the International Stabilization Force.

The two ministers also reviewed developments in the situation in Sudan, where Minister Abdel Ati stressed the necessity of preserving the sovereignty, unity and integrity of Sudanese lands, and supporting national institutions, as well as the importance of launching a political path with exclusive Sudanese ownership to put an end to the conflict.

He also stressed the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce as a preliminary step towards a sustainable ceasefire, allowing the entry of humanitarian aid and alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people.

At the end of the call, the two ministers agreed to continue coordination and joint consultation in light of the close relations between the two countries, which will contribute to reducing escalation and supporting security and stability in the region.
