Major General Dr. Alaa Abdel Moati, Governor of Gharbia, conducted a morning field tour in the city of Samannoud, during which he inspected the Holy Family Trail, which is considered one of the most important historical stations of the Holy Journey, where the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ, peace be upon him, stayed there for 17 days before completing their journey, within the framework of the governorate’s direction to revive religious purposes and maximize the benefit from its heritage sites.

The Governor of Al-Gharbia listened to a detailed explanation about the development work that the path witnessed, which transformed it from a random area into an integrated urban corridor, which included painting the facades of buildings, standardizing signage, paving the entire road with interlock, and beautifying the main square, in addition to developing the facades of places of worship and installing surveillance cameras, making Al-Gharbia Governorate one of the first governorates to finish developing this vital path five years ago.
The Governor of Gharbia also inspected the ancient church of the Virgin Mary and the Martyr Abanoub, where he was received by Father Abanoub Lewis and Father Bishoy, and listened to a comprehensive explanation about the archaeological collections inside the church, which include the holy well from which the Holy Family drank, and the stone bowl that the Virgin Mary used, in addition to a number of icons and collectibles of great historical and religious value.

The Governor of Gharbia stressed that Samannoud possesses distinct tourism and archaeological elements that must be maximized, directing the need to highlight these sites and promote them in a way that befits their value, while continuing development and maintenance work to preserve this cultural heritage, in a way that contributes to revitalizing tourism and supporting the historical identity of Gharbia Governorate.
