A recent scientific study revealed that choosing the type of drink may affect the level of concentration and attention during activities that require long hours of sitting, such as electronic games or working in front of the computer.
Sparkling water reduces fatigue and mental exhaustion
According to what was published by The Sun, the results showed that sparkling water may help reduce mental fatigue and maintain focus better compared to regular water, and may be a healthier alternative to energy drinks.
The researchers measured several indicators, including reaction speed, pupil size (an indicator of fatigue), the level of physical stress, and the players’ feeling of fatigue.
The results showed that sparkling water helped reduce feelings of fatigue compared to regular water. The researchers also noted that players who drank sparkling water maintained a better level of attention, felt more fun while playing, and made fewer mistakes within the game.
Researchers believe that the reason may be due to the carbon dioxide present in sparkling water, as this gas may activate sensory receptors in the mouth known as TRP channels, which are receptors associated with brain stimulation and increased alertness.
