The Directorate of Supply and Internal Trade in Fayoum Governorate, in coordination with the Medicines Authority, launched an expanded monitoring campaign targeting pharmacies, medical supply stores, and drug stores, which resulted in the seizure of large quantities of narcotic, smuggled, and unlicensed medications, in addition to counterfeit, expired, and unfit medicines for human use.

The campaign resulted in the arrest of a medical supplies store for possessing Schedule I drugs of unknown origin, which are prohibited from being circulated outside licensed pharmaceutical institutions. 15 ampoules of the drug “Nalvin” and 9 ampoules of the drug “Bibufen Sunny” were seized.
Smuggled and unregistered medicines were also seized, belonging to the first and third schedules of narcotic drugs, of unknown origin and not authorized for circulation. Eight vials of the “Ketamax” brand, which were not officially registered, were seized.
The seizures also included counterfeit medicines unfit for human use, as 12 packages of one of the counterfeit types were seized, in addition to the seizure of expired human medicines and others of unknown origin, amounting to 51 vials and ampoules of different types.
In a related context, the campaign was able to seize one of the pharmacies for possessing medicines belonging to the Ministry of Health, and not authorized to be circulated outside government health facilities. Another pharmacy was also sealed and closed due to the absence of the responsible manager during the inspection.
The Supply Directorate confirmed taking all necessary legal measures regarding the detected violations, seizing the seized items, and referring the facts to the competent authorities to take the necessary decisions.
