Sharm El Sheikh Museum displays a rare piece in celebration of International Education Day
Throughout the month of January, the Sharm El-Sheikh Antiquities Museum will display the statue of the royal scribe Rahotep, one of the most prominent symbols of science and knowledge in ancient Egypt, who served as scribe of royal documents during the Fifth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom.
The position of scribe was considered one of the highest positions in ancient Egypt, as science and writing had a pivotal position in managing state affairs and organizing society. The statue, made of granite, reflects the prestigious status of its owner with the king, and its solid material and remnants of colors indicate its importance and prominent role within the royal court.
The statue clearly highlights the essential role of science, knowledge, and writing in achieving societal stability and consolidating order, as the ancient Egyptians believed that education was the path to wisdom and advancement, and for this purpose they established houses of life to teach science and writing and link knowledge to the cosmic order.
Through this piece, the Sharm El-Sheikh Museum confirms that the message of education extends across the ages. Just as science formed the basis of cultural immortality in ancient Egypt, today it remains the key to development, innovation, and building generations capable of continuing the path of human civilization.
