Dr. Mostafa Madbouly saidPrime MinisterEgypt is going through a difficult situation due to the events and wars that the world is going through.

Madbouly added during a press conference that the government will take measures against any monopolist of basic goods and exploitation of citizens, including immediate referral to military court.

In a related context, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, President of… cabinetthat Egypt is entering the current crisis in a stronger economic position compared to previous crises, stressing that the state’s goal is to keep the economy operating at its maximum capacity to achieve the targeted growth rates.

An upcoming meeting with the president to increase the minimum wage

Madbouly explained, during a press conference, that an upcoming meeting is scheduled to be held with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to discuss increasing the minimum wage for state workers, as part of measures to support citizens in light of the current economic developments.

The Prime Minister indicated that the government is still bearing a large portion of the cost of the increase in fuel prices, stressing that the state will not bear the full cost to the citizen, despite the significant increase in global prices. He pointed out that a previous decision had been taken not to increase prices for a year, but global prices witnessed an increase of approximately 50%.

He added that there is a large gap between current energy prices and what they were before the outbreak of war, explaining that the price of a barrel of oil reached about $120 before falling again.

Madbouly stressed that the country was prepared for these developments and had stocks and contracts to secure energy needs, stressing that Egypt currently possesses sufficient supplies to meet the needs of the electricity sector, industry, and homes, while ensuring that energy supplies are not affected.

He explained that the government faced two options: either wait and bear the increasing cost or take economic measures to deal with the crisis, noting that the state was forced to take some decisions that it did not want due to the exceptional circumstances.
