Today, Thursday, Pope Tawadros II received at the Papal Residence in Cairo the Japanese Ambassador to Egypt, Fumio Iwai.
The Japanese ambassador expressed his happiness at returning to service in Egypt, praising the distinguished relations between the two countries and the depth of joint cooperation in many fields.

For his part, the Pope welcomed the ambassador, thanking the State of Japan for its great support for the education sector in Egypt, especially through Japanese schools and the Japanese University, stressing that Egyptian-Japanese cooperation in the field of education represents an important value that contributes to the development of Egyptian society.

During the meeting, the Pope presented an overview of the history of Egypt and the Coptic Church and its spread today in various countries of the world to serve the Copts in those countries, stressing the Church’s interest also in serving the community in which it is located through various community activities and services.

The dialogue discussed the similarities between the Mediterranean countries, and the ambassador expressed his happiness at being in Egypt and his appreciation for its ancient civilization and history. His Holiness the Pope also presented an overview of the history of Egypt, the Coptic Orthodox Church, and its spiritual and societal role.
The Pope pointed out that Egypt is distinguished by its geographical location, its ancient history, and the spirit of peaceful coexistence among its people, as the Nile River brings together all Egyptians in a national unity based on love and peace.
