A recent study revealed that babies born to mothers who had placental abruption may face a higher risk of developing or dying from heart disease before the age of 28.

Placental abruption increases a baby’s risk of heart disease

According to what was published by The Sun website, a report published in the Journal of the American Heart Association indicated that children who were exposed to the risk of placental abruption increased by about 4.6 times compared to those born without these complications.

The study, which followed nearly 3 million pregnancies, indicates that about 1% of them experienced placental abruption, and during a follow-up that extended 28 years, it was found that children in this group were approximately three times more likely to be hospitalized due to heart diseases such as heart failure, heart attacks, or clogged arteries.

Their risk of stroke was also 2.4 times higher than their peers, and the data shows that the risks were particularly higher in children under one year old.

The researchers believe that the results may reflect early influences on the development of the fetus’s cardiovascular system, and additional analyzes comparing siblings showed that genetic or environmental factors do not fully explain this association.
