
Dr. Amr Othman, Director of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse, and Ambassador Mohamed Nasr, Egyptian Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna, opened the Fund’s exhibition at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna.
The opening was attended by Major General Mufid Fawzi, Director of the General Department of Narcotics Control, and journalist Medhat Wahba, Media Advisor to the Anti-Addiction Fund, on the sidelines of the meetings of the 69th session of the International Narcotics Control Committee currently held in Vienna.
The exhibition of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse is located inside the headquarters of the United Nations in Vienna, and through the exhibition the mechanisms of the work of the Fund’s Resolve Centers are presented, as they provide treatment and rehabilitation services for addiction patients free of charge and in accordance with international standards, as well as economic empowerment programs for those recovering by training them in professional crafts needed by the labor market within free post-treatment services, so that the experience of establishing Resolve Centers has become one of the pioneering experiences at the regional level.
The exhibition also includes a presentation of the aspects of implementing the Egyptian strategy to combat drugs and reduce the risks of abuse and addiction, which was launched under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and is being implemented in cooperation with the ministries and concerned authorities.
The Egyptian Ambassador to Austria praised the strategy, as well as the implementation of the drug protection program in developed areas, “an alternative to slums,” within the framework of the President of the Republic’s mandates to implement drug protection programs in new residential areas. Various preventive programs are also being implemented to raise the awareness of different groups about the dangers of abuse.
Dr. Amr Othman, Director of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse, is participating in the activities of the meetings of the 69th session of the International Committee on Drug Control, held at the headquarters of the United Nations Office in Vienna, Austria, which will be held from March 9 to 13, 2026, with the participation of representatives of the majority of countries in the world. Dr. Amr Othman heads the Fund’s delegation, in the presence of 2,000 participants, more than 110 official speakers, representatives of the participating countries, and a number of ministers of countries concerned with the issue of combating drug abuse. The participation of the Fund delegation, headed by Dr. Amr Othman, reflects the international and regional appreciation for the Egyptian experience in combating drug abuse in accordance with international standards. These efforts are reflected in the Egyptian strategy to combat drugs and reduce the risks of abuse and addiction, and are being implemented from a global perspective in cooperation with the ministries and concerned authorities. It also represents an extension of the pioneering Egyptian role at the regional level in this field, as the year 2025 witnessed the Anti-Addiction Fund in Egypt developing the Arab plan in the field of drug control in cooperation with the League of Arab States, in addition to providing technical support to the Gulf Cooperation Council. The Arab Gulf states, in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, prepared the Gulf strategy to combat drugs, which was launched by the heads of the Gulf Cooperation Council states. The League of Arab States also approved the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse as an Arab center to enhance and coordinate efforts aimed at confronting the drug problem at the level of the Arab countries.
