In just 15 episodes, the series “Once Upon a Time” was able to put the divorce file under the microscope, revealing its complex details and profound effects that extend beyond the moment of separation. The work was not just a story about a marital dispute, but rather a precise dramatic study of the disintegration of a family, and the resulting psychological, legal, and human conflicts.
The series dealt with one of the most serious issues in society, presenting a realistic picture of what happens behind the doors of homes, and then inside the corridors of family courts. It revealed the escalation of stubbornness, the exchange of reports, and the exploitation of legal loopholes between the two parties, until the conflict almost reached imprisonment, in a scene that reflects how a personal dispute can turn into an open battle in which there is no winner.
The artist Majed El-Kedwany played the role of a pediatrician who suddenly finds himself a separated father, trying to maintain his psychological balance and his parental role amid the turmoil of emotions and pressure of issues. A performance characterized by depth and calm, reflecting the pain of a man who loses the stability of his home, and at the same time tries not to lose his children.
On the other hand, artist Yousra El Lozy presented the character of a housewife who spent 15 years living a traditional life, before she decided to file for divorce out of boredom and the feeling that she had not fulfilled herself. I thought that after separation there would be a wider space for rest and self-discovery, but events gradually revealed that the decision to demolish is easier than facing its consequences, and that the imagined freedom may have other unexpected faces.
However, the real hero of the work were the children. The series paid great attention to their feelings, confusion, and shock, especially in the poignant final scene, when the daughter stood before the judge and was forced to choose between father and mother. An extremely cruel human moment, but it came loaded with a mature message. The child explained that the presence of the mother gives her reassurance, that the presence of the father gives her stability and joy, and that her life is not complete without them together. A scene that summed up the meaning of family and rearranged priorities.
“Once Upon a Time” is a powerful and important work because it did not present divorce as an easy solution, and it did not limit the blame to one party rather than the other, but rather revealed the psychological and social damages that may not appear immediately, but leave a long-term impact. He sent a clear message that the decision to divorce should not be taken in a moment of anger or boredom, but rather after deep thinking about what comes after it, so that regret does not turn into a reality that is difficult to repair.
