The global streaming platform, Netflix, announced the implementation of a new increase in the prices of its subscriptions, in a move that reflects its endeavor to enhance revenues amid strong competition witnessed in the global digital entertainment market.

Netflix raises subscription prices

According to the recent amendments, the price of the basic subscription supported by ads increased to $8.99 per month, compared to $7.99 previously, and the cost of the standard plan without ads increased to $19.99 per month, an increase of two dollars, while the price of the premium plan increased to $26.99 per month, a similar increase.

The increases extended to include services for adding users from outside the same household, as the cost of adding an additional user reached $6.99 in the ad-supported plan, and $9.99 in the ad-free plans.

The company explained that these increases come within the framework of its ongoing plan to develop content and improve the quality of service, in light of increasing investments in original productions and modern technologies.

Netflix confirmed that the new prices began to be applied to new subscribers as of March 26, and will be gradually circulated to current subscribers over the coming months, with them notified in advance via email a month before implementation.

This step comes after a previous increase in early 2025, as the platform has since continued to develop its services, by introducing new content such as visual podcasts, and expanding live broadcasts, in addition to plans to update the phone application and improve the short video experience.

In a related context, Netflix recently backed away from its attempt to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, after the latter received a competing offer, which prompted the platform to withdraw from the deal and not submit a higher financial offer.
