A new study revealed that some ingredients that promote skin health, including vitamin C, retinol, and acids, may be harsh on the skin, and excessive amounts can cause skin complications.
The dangers of too much skin-boosting ingredients
According to what was published by The Sun website, the skin has a great ability to adapt, but this takes time due to its slow biological processes. It can adapt to changing temperatures and seasons, but it needs time to recover from its exposure to external aggressions.
The same applies to the active ingredients that are applied to the skin, as the latter needs a period of adaptation, as it is not accustomed to receiving them. Therefore, dermatologists advise taking the necessary precautions before including any new active ingredient in your cosmetic care routine.
Vitamin C stimulates the production of collagen, which is responsible for the elasticity of the skin. It also unifies its color and maintains its youth, but it is also capable of causing skin sensitivity due to its degree of acidity, which conflicts with the acidity of the skin.
In order to ensure that the skin absorbs this product safely and allows it to adapt to it, other ingredients must be used in conjunction with it, most notably niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants due to their moisturizing, protective, and anti-inflammatory properties.
As for the safe dose of this vitamin, it is recommended to start using a low dose and make sure to use vitamin E alongside it, as active ingredients that work together are often more effective than a single ingredient at a high dose.
