The Danish shipping company announced Maersk Today, Sunday, it intends to change the course of its ships heading from the Middle East to India to the Mediterranean route and redirect ships heading from the Middle East to the East Coast of the United States to take the Cape of Good Hope route, referring to the situation in the region.

The giant shipping company added in a statement that it will temporarily stop its flights through the Suez Canal and the Bab al-Mandab Strait and will continue to accept shipments destined for the Middle East region.

Gradual return of Maersk ships from the Suez Canal

Last month, the container shipping company Maersk announced the gradual return of some of its services to transit through the Suez Canal, in a step considered essential towards ending two years of disruption to global trade as a result of attacks launched by the Yemeni Houthi group on ships in the Red Sea.

The company explained today that it is currently facing unexpected restrictions resulting from the broader operating environment in the region, noting that these conditions complicate the process of passing without delay.

Maersk added in a statement: “After conversations with our security partners, it is clear that these restrictions make it difficult to avoid delays during transit through the region,” without revealing the nature of these restrictions.
