Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesman for… Ministry of Health And residents, announced the launch of a new presidential initiative to support children with type 1 diabetes, under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, with the aim of improving their quality of life and reducing their daily suffering.
Abdel Ghaffar: The number of children infected with the disease in Egypt is estimated at about 55 thousand children
Abdel Ghaffar explained, during television statements, that the number of children infected with the disease in Egypt is estimated at about 55,000 children from one to 18 years of age, noting that the biggest challenge does not lie in providing treatment, but rather in monitoring blood sugar measurements on an ongoing basis, as the child needs to measure it 6 to 10 times a day, which represents a great psychological and physical burden.
He pointed out that the initiative relies on continuous glucose monitoring devices, which allow measuring sugar levels over a 24-hour period without the need for pricks, while providing instantaneous alerts to parents, which contributes to improving disease control and reducing pain.
He added that the first phase of the initiative was launched from the Misr Children’s Hospital, and will be expanded to include 8 medical centers, with equipment distributed free of charge according to specific medical standards, with support from institutions including the Central Bank, the National Bank, CIB Bank, and the Medical Emergency Fund.
In a related context, he stressed that Egypt is moving to support sister countries in terms of health, in implementation of the directives of the political leadership, noting that the Minister of Health is communicating with his counterparts in Kuwait and Lebanon to check on the health conditions, while preparing to send medical teams and treatment supplies if needed.
