Launching the Save It.. Enlighten It campaign
This campaign comes as a continuation of the directives of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research to activate the role of universities and institutes in rationalizing energy to confront the global energy crisis, through several executive measures that include rationalizing the fuel used in university transportation, using energy-saving light bulbs, and using solar energy units with an increase in their number during the coming period, taking into account taking disciplined and rationalizing measures for the use of lighting in auditoriums and classrooms.
The Minister stressed that rationalizing energy consumption represents a shared national responsibility, stressing the continued follow-up of the campaign’s implementation and measuring its impact within universities and institutes, in order to ensure the achievement of its goals and the sustainability of its results.
Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, media advisor and official spokesman for the Ministry, explained that the awareness campaign in universities and institutes aims to activate the role of university youth in rationalizing energy consumption in universities and homes, as educating students contributes to changing the patterns of energy consumption behavior in their families, through their positive influence in conveying awareness messages to their families, their social environment, places of gathering, and practicing their various activities, as well as transferring the impact of the awareness campaign to different groups of Egyptian public opinion.
The official spokesman pointed out that the campaign relies on the role of university youth as key partners in efforts to rationalize energy consumption, by establishing rational use practices on campus, and encouraging them to transfer these behaviors to their families, as well as contributing to spreading the culture of energy efficiency among various segments of society.
The official spokesman added that the campaign includes implementing an integrated set of awareness and interactive activities within universities, including organizing educational seminars and launching student competitions that encourage innovation in the areas of energy efficiency, in addition to applying practical practices to rationalize consumption on campus.
He added that the General Administration of the Media Office and the Official Spokesperson prepared a set of awareness videos and visual materials (infographics), in preparation for launching an expanded digital publishing campaign through the Ministry’s official platforms on social media, with full cooperation and coordination with the university media departments to publish the content on the official pages of colleges and universities, ensuring that awareness messages reach the largest possible segment of students.
It should be noted that the Leadership Development Institute, headed by Dr. Karim Hammam, Advisor to the Minister for Student Activities, will organize a number of student events and activities in coordination with universities and institutes with the aim of supporting students’ participation in the campaign, enhancing their awareness of the importance of rationalizing energy consumption, and consolidating positive behaviors associated with the optimal use of resources.
