Director Karim El-Sobki presented a new proposal to save movie theaters from increasing losses, in light of the weak demand for morning and afternoon concerts and high operating costs, through his official Facebook account.
The proposal stipulates canceling concerts at ten in the morning, one in the afternoon, and three in the afternoon, and limiting themselves to three concerts a day at peak times, namely six in the evening, nine in the evening, and one after midnight, with the aim of concentrating the audience on times that achieve the highest attendance density.
Al-Sabki explained that theaters are currently bearing huge losses as a result of operating halls at almost empty concerts, with electricity consumption continuing at the same rates, in addition to paying workers’ wages without generating sufficient revenues, which leads to a decrease in average daily income and an increase in operational burdens.
He pointed out that implementing this system will contribute to reducing costs and raising operating efficiency, as well as increasing the average revenue for each concert, which supports the continuity of theaters and maintains the employment associated with them.
He stressed that the proposal does not only aim to save cinemas, but rather its impact extends to supporting films currently shown and protecting investments in works produced during the coming period, stressing that saving theaters means preserving an integrated cinema industry in which thousands of people work directly and indirectly.
Karim Al-Sabki concluded by recommending that the proposal should be implemented experimentally for a month, with the results evaluated to make the appropriate decision regarding its dissemination.
