The city of Al-Arish in North Sinai Governorate is witnessing a recurring crisis represented by the breakdown of the main sewage plant, which led to the overflow of sewage in a number of neighborhoods and the drowning of homes, amid a widespread state of anger due to the environmental, health and economic damage caused by the crisis.
Renewed crisis of disruption of the sewage station in Al-Arish
On November 27, 2025, the main sewage station in Al-Arish suffered a sudden malfunction that caused sewage to overflow into the streets and surrounding residential areas, leading to the flooding of a number of homes and damage to parts of the infrastructure, in addition to the spread of foul odors that residents could not bear for long hours.

The crisis caused great confusion within the affected neighborhoods, as sewage water was seen flowing in the roads adjacent to the station, causing movement disruption and obstructing the access to services, while residents faced difficulty entering or leaving their homes.
The anger of the people… and accusations of negligence
The people expressed intense anger and dissatisfaction with the recurrence of the problem, stressing that the crisis is not the first of its kind, but rather is repeated from time to time without radical solutions or real development, as they described.
Some of them added that the problem goes beyond just a daily inconvenience, as it causes economic damage to the residents of the affected homes due to the spread of unpleasant odors and the constant need for sterilization and cleaning operations.
Urgent demands for action
The people of Al-Arish called for rapid intervention to completely repair the station, and not just take temporary measures to restart it for a short period before the malfunctions return again, in addition to the necessity of developing a comprehensive plan to develop the city’s drainage network in line with the population increase and urban expansion.
They also stressed the need to provide permanent emergency teams and take measures to protect the environment and society from the serious health effects of the spread of wastewater in the streets.
