Dr. Mahmoud Shalabi, Fatwa Secretary at Dar, answered Fatwa Al-Masryah, regarding a question whose author says: “I am 40 years old and I have not yet gotten married, and every time I approach the topic, it never ends, and even though I keep praying and supplicating, I am very tired and afraid to do something that will anger God. What should I do?”, stressing that what the questioner is going through comes under the heading of affliction, and a person should not lose hope or have a bad opinion of God Almighty.
Marriage was delayed despite commitment to prayer and supplication, so what should I do?
The Fatwa Secretary at the Egyptian Fatwa House explained, during television statements, today, Wednesday, that resorting to God Almighty with supplication in such matters is legitimate and required, especially if a person is keen on obeying God and adhering to His commands, as supplication is a great door of closeness to God.
The Fatwa Secretary at Dar Al-Iftaa pointed out that supplication alone is inseparable from striving, stressing that a person must continue to take reasons, and not stop trying or proposing for marriage, because the disruption of the matter with some people may be a distraction from God Almighty due to the lack of goodness in this relationship.
The Fatwa Secretary at Dar Al-Iftaa added that the repeated incompleteness of the marriage does not mean deprivation or anger from God, but rather it may be due to wisdom that God alone knows, and the person in this case must combine patience and good faith in God, while continuing to work and strive and not surrender to despair.
The Fatwa Secretary at Dar Al-Iftaa stressed that what is required of a Muslim is to continue to pray, not to despair of God’s mercy, and to take legitimate reasons, stressing that if God Almighty knows the sincerity of the servant in his supplications and efforts, He will facilitate matters for him at the time he determines, and that relief may come from where he does not expect it.
A supplication for someone whose marriage is delayed
- Oh God, marry us and enrich us with Your lawful deeds from Your forbidden things, O God, O Generous One, O Lord of the Glorious Throne, have mercy on us with Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the Merciful. Oh God, I ask You in Your All-Knowing Name that You know my condition, so by Your mercy, O Lord, O Lord, O Lord, marry me to a good man who will cover me, and be the apple of my eye, and I will be the apple of his eye, O Lord.
- O reliever of worry, O remover of grief, relieve my anxiety and ease my affairs, have mercy on my weakness and my helplessness, and provide for me from where I do not expect, O Lord of the worlds, O Friendly, O Most Gracious, O Most Powerful of the heavens and the earth, O Guide of hearts, guide my heart, O Helper, help me, O Helper, help me. Oh God, do not deprive me of the breadth of your mercy, the comprehensiveness of your well-being, and the abundance of your giving, and do not withhold from me your talents because of my bad deeds, and do not reward me for the ugliness of my work.
- “O God, Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth and Lord of the Great Throne, our Lord and Lord of all things, bestow love and intentions, and the Revealer of the Torah and the Gospel and the Criterion. I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything that you are taking by the corner. Oh God, You are the First and there is nothing before You, and You are the Last and there is nothing after You, and You are the Manifest and there is nothing above You. And You are the Inner, and there is nothing besides You. Pay off our debt and enrich us from poverty.”
- “O God, I ask You for guidance and piety, chastity and wealth.” “There is no god but You. Glory be to You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.” “Lord, forgive me my sin.” And my ignorance, and my extravagance in all my affairs, and what you know better than me, O God, forgive me my sins, my intentionality, my ignorance, and my jest, and all of that is with me, O God, forgive me what I have put forward and what I have delayed, and what I have concealed and what I have declared. You are the advancer and you are the delayer, and you are capable of all things.”
- “O God, I am Your servant, the son of Your servant, and the son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your judgment continues over me. Your judgment is just for me. I ask You by every name that is Yours that you have named yourself with, or that you have revealed in your book, or that you have taught to anyone of your creation, or that you have kept in your knowledge. The unseen is with You, to make the Qur’an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the removal of my sadness, and the release of my worries.”
