Some people with migraines notice an increase in the number or severity of attacks, especially due to fasting and dehydration, in addition to disturbed sleep schedules and changes in eating patterns.

How do migraines occur in Ramadan?

According to what was published on the Health and Me website, migraines are not just a passing pain in the head, but rather a chronic nervous condition that may be accompanied by nausea, sensitivity to light or sound, and sometimes visual disturbances. Therefore, regulating the lifestyle during Ramadan plays an essential role in reducing attacks.

Losing fluids during long hours of fasting may lead to a relatively low blood volume, which affects its flow to the brain and increases the possibility of headaches.

Also, sudden abstinence from caffeine in those who are accustomed to coffee daily may cause withdrawal headaches that are sometimes confused with migraines.

Headache attacks can be reduced by replacing fluids between iftar and suhoor, by drinking sufficient amounts of water distributed over several periods, instead of drinking a large amount at once.
