Official sources within the Ministry revealed EndowmentsThe Ministry prohibits those in i’tikaf from photographing themselves or others during i’tikaf and publishes it on social networking sites, and restricts the use of phones, except when absolutely necessary, to preserve the sanctity of this worship.

The sources confirmed to Cairo 24 that, as in previous years, emphasis has been placed on not allowing preaching lessons or preaching thoughts except through the imam of the mosque or someone assigned by the ministry to do so in an official letter, and prohibiting the distribution of any books, pamphlets, or leaflets inside the mosque, and access for those who want is limited to the official mosque library, if one exists.

The sources added that this comes in order to ensure that itikaf is a pure spiritual experience, and that its primary goal of devoting time to worship and obedience is achieved, so that those in seclusion become an honorable image of Islam, and limit themselves to acts of worship such as prayer, night prayers, reading the Qur’an, supplication, and dhikr, and staying away from any activities that may distract from the primary goal of itikaf.
