Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, participated as a keynote speaker in the International Mining Conference in Riyadh, in A discussion session on the role of technology In maximizing the exploitation of mining resources.

During the session, the minister stressed the importance of giving priority to modern technologies and policies that help make the most of available resources, explaining that Egypt – in light of its endeavor to increase the contribution of mining to the national product – recently implemented comprehensive reforms to the mining sector, which included updating the model of agreements and digitizing licenses and approvals, so that the vision became clear to investors from the exploration stage to production.

Comprehensive reforms to the mining sector

He added that partnership with governments is an essential element in the mining industry, pointing out that Egypt has developed its role from a mere regulatory body to a stimulating partner for investment by developing the geological database and facilitating access to it, with mechanisms for continuous communication with investors, stressing that these steps were reflected in the increased interest of major mining companies globally and the growth of mineral exploration and exploration work in Egypt.

He stressed that all of the above sends a clear message that Egypt is ready to receive mining investments, and that it is building a mining sector capable of competing globally that gives confidence to investors to pump investments and implement huge projects in the long term, noting that Egypt is currently mapping the unexploited areas of the Arabian-Nubian Shield and other areas rich in minerals, and promoting investment in several minerals.

He pointed out that Egypt will work to accelerate rapid exploration programs, adopt modern technologies, and develop capabilities of vital minerals. A number of heads of Australian and Canadian mining companies participated in the session.
