The Ministry of Youth and Sports organized an awareness meeting to discuss the phenomenon of “electronic atheism” within the Ministry’s pavilion at the Cairo International Book Fair, in light of the growth of non-religious discourses witnessed in the societal arena through social media and modern means of communication, and the accompanying intellectual influences on some groups of young people.
The meeting discussed the dangers of the spread of atheistic content through digital platforms, and the role that some media outlets play in promoting non-religious symbols and ideas, which requires enhancing awareness and building intellectual immunity based on dialogue and rational critical thinking.
This comes within the efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, through the Central Administration for Civic Education – the General Administration for Civil Education and Qualification of Youth Cadres, to correct misconceptions among young people, confront the phenomenon of atheism in its various forms, and support moderate religious and human values.
The meeting took place in the presence of Professor Iman Abdel Jaber, Head of the Central Administration for Civic Education, and His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Azhari, the young mufti accredited by the Egyptian Fatwa House, and with the participation of a number of pioneers of the Ministry’s pavilion at the exhibition.
