Transportation The Strategic Command and Christ Cathedral stations begin operating by light rail
This comes within the framework of the Ministry of Transport’s role in providing diverse and modern transportation services that provide the highest levels of service to the public of citizens to connect the New Capital, Greater Cairo, and all the governorates of the Republic, namely (the light electric train (LRT), the East Nile Monorail, and modern passenger buses), and in the future through the high-speed electric train network, which embodies the great renaissance witnessed by the transportation sector during the era of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic.

A source at the Ministry of Transport told Cairo 24 that the Ministry is preparing, during the days of Eid al-Fitr, to begin trial operation of a number of new stations within the third phase of the light electric train (LRT) project, known as the Capital Train.
The third phase includes 4 stations: the Nativity Cathedral, the Strategic Command, the International Sports City, and the Central Capital, within the framework of the state’s plan to expand the modern mass transportation system and connect new cities with the Administrative Capital.
The route of the third phase of the capital’s electric train project
The route of the third phase of the Capital Electric Train project extends 20.4 kilometers, and includes 3 overhead stations and a surface station, which contributes to improving transportation within the New Administrative Capital and its surrounding areas, in addition to facilitating the transportation of employees and those who frequent the government and sports area in the capital.
Through the project, the Ministry of Transport aims to enhance the efficiency of the smart transportation network and link it to major transportation projects, as the line allows the exchange of passenger transportation service with the high-speed electric train (Ain Sokhna – Matrouh) at the capital’s central station, which supports integration between different means of transportation and reduces pressure on the road network and main axes east of Cairo.
