Major General Mohamed Alwan, Governor of Assiut, decided to suspend classes today, Thursday, April 2, 2026, for students and workers in all Al-Azhar schools and institutes at the governorate level, except for the offices of departments and directorates, due to the expected bad weather conditions, and out of concern for the safety of students.

The Governor of Assiut explained that the decision comes in light of what the Meteorological Authority reports indicate that the governorate is exposed to a wave of unstable weather, including chances of light to moderate rain, accompanied by active winds that may stir up sand and dust, leading to reduced horizontal visibility in some areas.

The governor confirmed that coordination had been made with the ministries of education, local development, environment, and the Al-Azhar institutes sector to take this decision, in a way that ensures the security and safety of students and workers in the educational system.

In the same context, Major General Muhammad Alwan stressed raising the maximum level of preparedness in all executive agencies and vital facilities in the governorate, with the main operations room meeting around the clock, and coordinating with sub-operations rooms in centers and cities to receive any emergency reports and deal with them immediately.

The Governor of Assiut appealed to citizens to be careful, avoid being in open places during dust storms, and stay away from lighting poles and trees, while adhering to traffic instructions, especially on highways, until weather conditions stabilize, and immediately reporting any emergency cases through the governorate’s operations room through the hotline (114) or through the following numbers: “Land 0882135858 – 0882135727” 24 hours a day.
