CancerIn light of the repercussions of the ongoing war in the Middle East, according to a report published in The Sun.
A silent crisis hits medicine supplies in Britain due to the Iranian war
The report indicated that some chemotherapy drugs may become unavailable within days or weeks, as a result of disruptions to global supply chains, especially since these drugs depend on continuous production due to their short shelf life.
Although the British government has confirmed that there is no current shortage of medicines, growing concerns prevail within the medical community, especially with some medicines already continuing to suffer from a shortage of supplies over the past months.
Among the affected medications is Evodex cream, used in treating skin cancers, which faced a previous shortage, in addition to “Creon,” a drug used to treat pancreatic cancer patients, which has been dispensed in limited quantities for some time.
Experts also revealed a shortage of other chemotherapy drugs such as bendamustine and fluorouracil, in addition to common medications such as analgesics, antidepressants, and hormone therapy, which further complicates the crisis.
Dr. Leila Hanbeck, President of the Association of Independent Pharmacies, confirmed that the situation is likely to deteriorate during the coming period, if the government does not intervene with more effective plans to ensure the stability of supplies.
On the other hand, the British Ministry of Health stressed that it is continuously monitoring the situation, and is working in cooperation with pharmaceutical companies to secure stocks, while taking alternative measures when needed.
