Moroccan media reports revealed that Punishing the Al-Ahly club team by depriving it of its fans from two matches in the African Champions League was an attempt by Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, to restore rapprochement with the Moroccan Federation after the recent crisis between the two parties.

Kaf punishment for Al-Ahly

According to what was reported by the Moroccan newspaper Al-Etebak, Motsepe tried to restore relations and reconcile Morocco with late decisions, including punishing Al-Ahly with two matches after the events of the Royal Army match, but these are desperate attempts and there is no intention to return to normal, according to what the newspaper reported.

The newspaper elaborated on some of the details of the crisis that has existed between CAF and the Moroccan Football Federation since the final match of the last edition of the African Cup of Nations, in which the Moroccan national team lost in its final match to Senegal.

The newspaper indicated that Morocco requested to postpone the holding of the next edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to be held in Morocco. The newspaper added that the Moroccan side refused to answer repeated calls from CAF regarding the Women’s African Cup of Nations, insisting on postponing it at a time when CAF President Motsepe was insisting on holding the tournament on time for marketing and contractual reasons.

The Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had punished Al-Ahly by depriving it of its fans in two African matches, provided that the implementation of the penalty in one of the two matches was suspended for a year, while the punishment in the other match was implemented immediately, in addition to fining the club $60,000, against the backdrop of the riots that occurred from Al-Ahly fans in its team’s match against the Royal Moroccan Army at the conclusion of the group stage of the current version of the African Champions League.
